Terrorist brought down....Ancient America?

American’s have never been attacked by terrorists on American soil before....or so recent historians claim.  Is this true?

The Book of Mormon cites that 2000 years ago, the entire foundation of the Nephite civilization was crumbled by none other than….terrorists.

While the terrorists of the American Nephites, known as Gadianton robbers, lived so long ago, read how similar the intent and actions of the Gadianton Terrorists were to the horrific events of recent days…on American soil.

Summary...

1.      They attacked the innocent—even women and children (Helaman 4:40 )

2.      The terrorists intended to intimidate by fear (Helaman 4:40 )

3.      A few of the terrorists could defy entire armies of the righteous (Helaman 4:39 )

4.      The terrorist leader usually started with a persuasive individual who had a beef with the current government.  Helaman 1:40

5.     The terrorists thrived among the wicked but lived secretly among the righteous.  Helaman 2:142

6. The terrorist camp was started by one who had a beef with the current government of the righteous people. Helaman 1:40

7.  Persuasive leader, teaching that gain may be had by murder Helaman 1:40

8.  Founded on secret rites, protected by secrecy sworn or death.  They were characterized by murder, and plunder, stealing, and commit whoredoms, and all manner of wickedness, contrary to the laws of their country and also the laws of their God;

9.  Were hidden not in the cities, but in the mountains Helaman 2:142

10.  Were protected and supported by the nation that professed a God yet denied the more part of His teachings.

11.  The righteous upon whom the terror was inflicted, sought only that the terrorists would be executed according to the Law, not revenge. Helaman 1:47

12.  When repentant, the Nephites eradicated the Gadianton terrorists because God’s power gave them the military advantage; when sinful, they were reduced to their own strength and the enemy often prevailed.

13.  In the end of the entire record we find that the Gadianton terrorist foundation proved the entire overthrow of the righteous people, because of their lack of repentance. Helaman 1:51

14.  The only real and lasting cure for the enemy was to be converted to the true Gospel of the Creator. Helaman 2:164

15.  The only real deliverance from the enemy was true repentance 3 Nephi 2:20

16.  Find that the source of terrorist evil came not from the man but from the master Mahan.  This conflict is not about Americans and Afgans; Islams and Christians, but between the Satan who lost the throne to the Saviour Jesus Christ who will occupy the throne forever.

17. A stern warning was given from two previous American societies that fell due to terrorism--Stop it, or it will stop you. Ether 3:96

“Our nation faces a threat to our freedoms, and the stakes could not be higher.  We are the target of enemies who boast they want to kill:  kill all Americans, kill all Jews, and kill all Christians.

“We’ve seen that type of hate before, and the only possible response is to confront it, and to defeat it.

“…We wage a war to save civilization itself.

“…We did not seek it, but we will fight it and we will prevail.

For what purpose do secret combinations form?

Helaman 1:40 For there was one Gadianton who was exceeding expert in many words, and also in his craft, to carry on the secret work of murder and of robbery; therefore he became the leader of the band of Kishkumen; (Power and authority to promote their wicked agenda, usually starts with one individual who has a beef with the government.  Convinces many to follow.  Convinced them using lies)

How?

Helaman 1:41 Therefore he did flatter them, and also Kishkumen, that if they would place him in the judgment seat, he would grant unto those who belonged to his band that they should be placed in power and authority among the people; therefore Kishkumen sought to destroy Helaman.

Helaman 1:44 And when the servant of Helaman had known all the heart of Kishkumen, and how that it was his object to murder,

What is the (normal) desire of the just to whom the acts have been committed?

Helaman 1:47 And it came to pass that Helaman did send forth to take this band of robbers and secret murderers, that they might be executed according to the law.

What ultimate threat did the Gadianton terrorists propose?

Helaman 1:51 And behold, in the end of this book, ye shall see that this Gadianton did prove the overthrow, yea, almost the entire destruction of the people of Nephi.

“…We wage a war to save civilization itself."

What are their characteristics?

Helaman 3:3 And seeing the people in a state of such awful wickedness, and those Gadianton robbers filling the judgment seats, having usurped the power and authority of the land; laying aside the commandments of God, and not in the least aright before him: doing no justice unto the children of men; condemning the righteous because of their righteousness; letting the guilty and the wicked go unpunished, because of their money;

Helaman 2:147 And thus they might murder, and plunder, and steal, and commit whoredoms, and all manner of wickedness, contrary to the laws of their country and also the laws of their God;

Where did they live? (And where do the terrorists today reside?)

3 Nephi 1:33 And it came to pass that the ninety and third year did also pass away in peace, save it were for the Gadianton robbers, who dwelt upon the mountains, who did infest the land;

Where did the terrorists reside?

Helaman 2:142 And now it had come to pass that there were many even among the Nephites, of Gadianton's band. But behold, they were more numerous among the more wicked part of the Lamanites. (among the Godless people)

Are God’s people always aware of the looming threats? (Were Americans aware of the looming threats?)

Helaman 2:21 And it came to pass in the forty and ninth year of the reign of the Judges, there was continual peace established in the land, all save it were the secret combinations which Gadianton the robber had established, in the more settled parts of the the land, which at that time were not known unto those who were at the head of the government; therefore they were not destroyed out of the land.

Helaman 2:22 And it came to pass that in this same year, there was exceeding great prosperity in the church, insomuch that there were thousands who did join themselves unto the church, and were baptized unto repentance;

Prosperity occurs for 10 years, then…

Helaman 2:138 And in the commencement of the sixty and seventh year, the people began to grow exceeding wicked again. 139 For behold, the Lord had blessed them so long with the riches of the world, that they had not been stirred up to anger, to wars, nor to bloodsheds; therefore they began to set their hearts upon their riches; 140 Yea, they began to seek to get gain, that they might be lifted up one above another; therefore they began to commit secret murders, and to rob and to plunder that they might get gain. 141 And now behold, those murderers and plunderers were a band who had been formed by Kishkumen and Gadianton.

But what caused the eventual rise in power of the Gadianton Terrorists?

Helaman 2:28 And it came to pass that there were peace and exceeding great joy in the remainder of the forty and ninth year; yea, and also there were continual peace and great joy in the fiftieth year of the reign of the Judges.

Helaman 2:29 And in the fifty and first year of the reign of the Judges, there was peace also, save it were the pride which began to enter into the church; not into the church of God, but into the hearts of the people who professed to belong to the church of God; and they were lifted up in pride, even to the persecution of many of their brethren.

Helaman 2:32 And it came to pass that the fifty and second year ended in peace also, save it were the exceeding great pride which had gotten into the hearts of the people; and it was because of their exceeding great riches, and their prosperity in the land; and it did grow upon them from day to day.

Helaman 2:35 And it came to pass in the fifty and fourth year, there were many dissensions in the church, and there was also a contention among the people,

What did it lead to?

Helaman 2:38 And in the fifty and seventh year, they did come down against the Nephites to battle; and they did commence the work of death; yea, insomuch that in the fifty and eighth year of the reign of the Judges, they succeeded in obtaining possession of the land of Zarahemla: yea, and also all the lands, even unto the land which was near the land Bountiful; (political instability, ruin of government, overthrow by the wicked).

Helaman 2:44 Now this great loss of the Nephites, and the great slaughter which was among them, would not have happened, had it not been for their wickedness and their abomination which was among them; yea, and it was among those also who professed to belong to the church of God: (professing, but not acting)  45 And it was because of the pride of their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, yea, it was because of their oppression to the poor, withholding their food from the hungry, withholding their clothing from the naked, and smiting their humble brethren upon the cheek, making a mock of that which was sacred, denying the spirit of prophecy and of revelation, murdering, plundering, lying, stealing, committing adultery, rising up in great contentions, and deserting away into the land of Nephi, among the Lamanites;  46 And because of this their great wickedness, and their boastings in their own strength, they were left in their own strength; therefore they did not prosper, but were afflicted and smitten, and driven before the Lamanites, until they had lost possesion of almost all their lands.

What other corruption did their pride lead to?

Helaman 2:57 And thus seeing that their laws had become corrupted, and that they had become a wicked people, insomuch that they were wicked even like unto the Lamanites.

Helaman 2:58 And because of their iniquity, the church had begun to dwindle; and they began to disbelieve in the spirit of prophecy, and in the spirit of revelation; and the judgments of God did stare them in the face.

And what is the consequence for the people of God?

Helaman 2:59 And they saw that they had become weak, like unto their brethren, the Lamanites, and that the Spirit of the Lord did no more preserve them; yea, it had withdrawn from them, because the Spirit of the Lord doth not dwell in unholy temples;

Helaman 2:62 And thus had they fallen into this great transgression; yea, thus had they become weak, because of their transgression, in the space of not many years.

And the consequence for the terrorists?

Helaman 2:166 And thus they did obtain the sole management of the government, insomuch that they did trample under their feet, and smite, and rend, and turn their backs upon the poor, and the meek, and the humble followers of God.

What is the desire of states/groups that sponsor terrorism? (Do modern terrorists 'punish' each other for killing innocent people?)

Helaman 2:148 And whosoever of those who belonged to their band, should reveal unto the world of their wickedness and their abominations, should be tried, not according to the laws of their country, but according to the laws of their wickedness, which had been given by Gadianton and Kishkumen.

How do they operate?

Helaman 2:145 But behold, Satan did stir up the hearts of the more part of the Nephites, insomuch that they did unite with those bands of robbers, and did enter into their covenants, and their oaths, that they would protect and preserve one another, in whatsoever difficult circumstances they should be placed, that they should not suffer for their murders, and their plunderings, and their stealings. (Today, even the terrorists were assumed to not have known each other from group to group (common), to protect the secret identity of the group.)

What was the main foundation and pervasive characterstic of the terrorists?

Nephi 1:50 And it came to pass that the wicked part of the people began again to build up the secret oaths and combinations of Gadianton.

Who was the author of the secret societies of terrorism? (Who is the real author of Terrorism today?)

Helaman 2:149 Now behold, it is these secret oaths and covenants, which Alma commanded his son should not go forth unto the world, lest they should be a means of bringing down the people unto destruction.

Helaman 2:150 Now behold, those secret oaths and covenants did not come forth unto Gadianton from the records which were delivered unto Helaman;

Helaman 2:151 But behold, they were put into the heart of Gadianton, by that same being who did entice our first parents to partake of the forbidden fruit; yea, the same being who did plot with Cain, that if he would murder his brother Abel, it should not be known unto the world.

Helaman 2:156 And behold, it is he who is the author of all sin. And behold, he doth carry on his works of darkness and secret murder, and doth hand down their plots, and their oaths, and their covenants, and their plans of awful wickedness from generation to generation, according as he can get hold upon the hearts of the children of men.

Helaman 3:66 And behold, they both belong to your secret band, whose author is Gadianton, and the evil one who seeketh to destroy the souls of men.

(make no mistake, this is a war between good and evil, with Satan the evil side’s commander and chief).

What was their strongest defense against the enemy? (And what will ours be in this day?)

Helaman 2:47 But behold, Moronihah did preach many things unto the people, because of their iniquity, and also Nephi and Lehi, who were the sons of Helaman, did preach many things unto the people;

Helaman 2:48 Yea, and did prophesy many things unto them concerning their iniquities, and what should come unto them if they did not repent of their sins.

Helaman 2:49 And it came to pass that they did repent, and inasmuch as they did repent, they did begin to prosper;

Helaman 2:50 For when Moronihah saw that they did repent, he did venture to lead them forth from place to place, and from city to city, even until they had retained the one half of their property, and the one half of all their lands.

Just because the robbers were defeated once, did it mean the end of the problem? (Does conquering al-Queida in Afganistan mean the threat is over?)

Helaman 4:33 And thus in time, yea, even in the space of not many years, they became an exceeding great band of robbers; and they did search out all the secret plans of Gadianton; and thus they became robbers of Gadianton.

What was their affect?

Helaman 4:34 Now behold, these robbers did make great havoc, yea, even great destruction among the people of Nephi, and also among the people of the Lamanites.

Was force justified to rid the nation of the terrorists?

Helaman 2:144 And now it came to pass that when the Lamanites found that there were robbers among them, they were exceeding sorrowful; and they did use every means in their power, to destroy them off the face of the earth.

3 Nephi 1:48 And it came to pass in thirteenth year, there began to be wars and contentions throughout all the land; for the Gadianton robbers had become so numerous, and did slay so many of the people, and did lay waste so many cities, and did spread so much death and carnage throughout the land, that it became expedient that all the people, both the Nephites, and the Lamanites, should take up arms against them;

How were they hunted out?

Helaman 4:35 And it came to pass that it was expedient that there should be a stop put to this work of destruction; therefore they sent an army of strong men into the wilderness, and upon the mountains to search out this band of robbers, and to destroy them.

(as of 9-28-01, American commandos in northern Afganistan…)

What happened?

Helaman 4:39 And they were also visited with much destruction; and they were again obliged to return out of the wilderness and out of the mountains, unto their own lands, because of the exceeding greatness of the numbers of those robbers who infested the mountains and the wilderness.

Helaman 4:40 And it came to pass that thus ended this year. And the robbers did still increase and wax strong, insomuch that they did defy the whole armies of the Nephites, and also of the Lamanites; and they did cause great fear to come unto the people, upon all the face of the land;

What does this scripture suggest?

3 Nephi 1:48 And it came to pass in thirteenth year, there began to be wars and contentions throughout all the land; for the Gadianton robbers had become so numerous, and did slay so many of the people, and did lay waste so many cities, and did spread so much death and carnage throughout the land, that it became expedient that all the people, both the Nephites, and the Lamanites, should take up arms against them; (That eventually, even the nations supporting terrorism realized their own destruction was immenent, unless they rid themselves of the problem.)

What was the ultimate cure?

Helaman 2:66 And it came to pass that Nephi had become weary, because of their iniquity; and he yielded up the judgment seat, and took it upon him to preach the word of God all the remainder of his days, and his brother Lehi also, all the remainder of his days; for they remembered the words which their father Helaman spake unto them…. Helaman 2:74 And now my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation,

3 Nephi 2:20 Yea, he said unto them, As the Lord liveth, except ye repent of all your iniquities, and cry unto the Lord, that they could in no wise be delivered out of the hands of those Gadianton robbers.

3 Nephi 2:86 And now it came to pass that when they had taken all the robbers prisoners, insomuch that none did escape who were not slain, they did cast their prisoners into prison, and did cause the word of God to be preached unto them;

What is the cure for the enemy?

Helaman 2:164 And it came to pass that the Lamanites did hunt the band of robbers of Gadianton; and they did preach the word of God among the more wicked part of them, insomuch that this band of robbers was utterly destroyed from among the Lamanites.

Did the prophets of the Book of Mormon forsee problems because of secret combinations beyond their day?

 Mormon 4:35 And it shall come in a day when the blood of the saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness;

What advice did these prophets, who saw their own civilizations crumble because of secret acts of terrorism, give to us in the last days?

Ether 3:94 And now I, Moroni, do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites, and they have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking, and also the destruction of the people of Nephi; (i.e. BOTH Jaredite and Nephite civilizations died due to acts from secrect combinations leading to terrorism)

Ether 3:95 And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed, for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them, and yet he avenge them not;

Ether 3:96 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shewn unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain, and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you;
